Trauma & EMDR Therapy in Baton Rouge
Let’s face it: some of us carry heavier loads from our past than others. Maybe your heavy load is from an unhealthy or toxic relationship, unthinkable sexual abuse or wounds from being raised in a destructive environment. Frequently people downplay their trauma by saying, “it wasn’t that bad,” or “there are people who had it worse.” Still others may say things like, “I don’t even think about that anymore.”
What we often see in therapy is a degree of unknown impact of the trauma on your present life. You may not see how it’s affecting you, but others around you can see it. People who have had a lot of trauma tend to be great at storing trauma away but never addressing it. Instead, they create defense mechanisms to get through their daily life.
While all of this may sound overwhelming, a treatment that has been proven effective for bringing healing and freedom to people with trauma history is called EMDR.
It isn’t a quick process but lasting change never is.
